How to Register and Log into VolunteerUp
Once you have reached the calendar, you can log in by clicking the “Log In” link located at the top of the page. On the next screen, you will be asked for your user name and password. If you have not been assigned a user name and password, you will need to register.


To register, click the Register link to create your volunteer profile. The volunteer profile will let you create a user name and password, and it will give you an opportunity to select your areas of interest. After you have filled out the volunteer profile, click the Register button. A message will appear at the top of the screen that indicates that the profile has been updated. You can return to the calendar by clicking the Return to Calendar button.

Once you have registered, you will not need to register again. During future visits to the VolunteerUp calendar, simply type in your user name and password on the Log In page.

Costs of houses differ relative to location and costs of labor, land and materials. The average cost to build a Habitat house in the U.S. is currently $47,000, excluding land. The cost of a Habitat house in San Luis Obispo County is approximately $96,000. excluding land.

Basic VolunteerUP Navigation
After you have logged in, the system will take you back to the calendar. However, you will now see a welcome message in the middle of the screen near the top that has your name. Across the top of the page is the navigation bar. The navigation bar has the following links:

  • Log Off Here! – This link lets you log off the system
  • My Info – This link lets you manage your volunteer profile (contact information, skill level, user name, password, etc.) and view your personalized volunteer schedule (you must sign up for work days to have any days listed on your schedule).
  • Return to Main Habitat Site – This link takes you back to the HFHAC website.
  • Adult Waiver – This link takes you to the required volunteer paperwork for adults (18+).
  • Youth Waiver – This link takes you to the required volunteer paperwork for youth.
  • Privacy Policy – This link lets you see our online privacy policy.

Below the navigation bar and welcome message is the volunteer calendar. The
calendar displays HFHAC’s volunteer opportunities for construction projects and for the Habitat Home Store.

How to Sign Up for a Volunteer Work Day
From the calendar page, scroll down to look at upcoming volunteer opportunities. Use the date links above your welcome message to navigate to other months. Work days will display a Sign Up link. Once you have decided on the day(s) you would like to volunteer, click on that day’s Sign Up link. NOTE: If you haven’t logged in yet it will ask you to do so. See the “How to log into VolunteerUp” section above.

The next screen you will see is the Sign Up screen. It provides the name of the project, a description of the project, the date of the work day, the location, the number of volunteers that have signed up, and the names of the volunteers that have signed up.

To sign up complete the following steps:

  1. Choose your shift
  2. If you plan on bringing any friends or guests, please have them register and sign up separately.
  3. Next, select the task/role you would like to sign-up for. Some work days have a one default already selected for you.
  4. If you would like to receive an e-mail reminder of your scheduled date, choose how far in advance you would like to receive the message from the Email Reminder drop-down box.
  5. Now click the SignUp button (located at the top and bottom of the page).
  6. The next screen is your confirmation, which you can print or e-mail to yourself.
  7. To finalize your sign up, click the update button (if you clicked the e-mail
    confirmation it will automatically update the system).
  8. After clicking update, you can scroll down and see your name listed as the
    volunteers scheduled for that date.
  9. To return to the calendar, click the return button.

Making Changes to Your Schedule
If an emergency arises and you need to remove yourself from a day you have signed up for or if you clicked on the wrong date, you can modify your schedule. To do so, click on the My Info link located at the top of the calendar page. Select My Volunteer Schedule and click the Select button located at the bottom of the page.

The next screen will show your personalized schedule. The dates you have signed up to volunteer will be listed. If you need to delete a day click the Delete Commitment? link that corresponds to the date you wish to delete.

You can also use this screen to access the work day’s location and description by clicking on the corresponding date link.

NOTE: This screen will only show one month in advance. If you would like to see dates beyond one month, type in dates you would like to see in the Start Date and End Date boxes at the top of the page and click the Search button. You can also sort your schedule by Project Type by selecting the project type from the drop-down box at the top of the page and clicking the Search button.
